University Heights Baptist Church continues its "First Wednesday Noon Concert Series" with guitarist Randy Buckner in the church Chapel at noon Wednesday, October 6. Springfield native Randy Buckner's dad taught him how to play in the Chet Atkins style when he was a 9-year-old kid, and for the next 30 years he was primarily self-taught until he entered the jazz program at Middle Tennessee State University. Over the years Buckner has performed in swing, country and rock bands as well as solo gigs. He cites influences as everyone from Merle Travis to Les Paul, Chet Atkins and Wes Montgomery. Buckner placed 2nd in the 2010 National Guitar Thumbpicking Contest in Mountain View, Arkansas, and recently finished recording his first CD. The concert is free and open to the public.
