There will be special hours set aside over the weekend for those who want to vote absentee. KSMU's Michele Skalicky has more.
If you need to cast an absentee vote in the upcoming Special Election in Greene County, you don’t have to do it during the week. The Greene County Clerk’s office will be open Saturday (6/5) from 9 am to 1 pm for absentee voting. The June 8th ballot in Greene County features a sales tax proposal for Springfield voters—they’ll decide whether or not to continue the quarter-cent sales tax for capital improvements. Voters in the Willard Fire Protection District will decide a tax levy question. If approved, the tax levy increase would be used to hire full-time firefighters, build a new fire house and fund general operational costs. The deadline for casting an absentee ballot in person at the clerk’s office is 5 pm on the day before the election. Those voting absentee by mail must be sure their written request for a ballot arrives at the clerk’s office by 5 pm tomorrow (6/2) in order to be processed. The request must be signed, state the reason for voting absentee and contain the address to which the ballot should be sent. State laws restrict the use of absentee voting to those who have a legal reason such as absence from the county on election day or physical disability.
