Join the members of First Friday Art Walk and the Downtown Springfield Association Saturday April 17 for "Center City Saturday," a family-friendly smorgasbord of art, movies, hands-on activities, giveaways, food and fun for all ages. As a special treat, families can kick off their Center City Saturday adventures with the new kids film series at Hollywood Theatres, beginning with a FREE 10 a.m. showing of Monsters vs. Aliens 3-D. For April, Center City Saturday puts the focus on Earth and Energy. Celebrate Earth Day with FREE admission at The Discovery Center, and experience environmentally friendly art with Art Walk’s Fresh Gallery, Global Fayre, Good Girl Art Gallery, Hawthorn Galleries, Obelisk Home, Springfield Hot Glass Studio and Springfield Pottery. Highlights of the April 17 Center City Saturday include: free hands-on activities and demonstrations at the Discovery Center sponsored by the Partnership for Sustainability; art by Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts at Fitzwilly's Gifts and Antiques; fiber art by Carol Penprase and mixed-media works by Dale Agustson at Fresh Gallery; art from recycled materials at Global Fayre; local artwork at Good Girl Art Gallery's April show and silent auction, "Childhood in its Landscape" to benefit arts in education; paintings by Jim Bilgere and sculptures by Linda Simpson at Hawthorne Galleries; found-object art by Ismael Ortiz and paintings by Elizabeth Snipes at Obelisk Home; a free movie marathon celebrating Earth Day, along with photographs by Fordland Middle School students, at Park Central Branch Library; watch the glassblowers at Springfield Hot Glass Studio; and enjoy art from the Earth at Springfield Pottery.
