Get ready for a day of fun in downtown Bolivar Saturday May 9 from 9 am to 3 pm during the first "Art in the Alley" festival sponsored by the Downtown Bolivar Association. The festival will showcase creativity in Polk County as local artisans loan their artwork for display in the alleys on the east and west sides of the Bolivar square. In the parking lot behind the alleys will be vendor booths and entertainment, with a special focus on kids' activities behind the west alley. The kids' area will include sidewalk chalk drawing, crafts, games, and a bouncehouse provided by the Roy Blunt YMCA of Bolivar. Also, members of the Polk County Artists Association and the Bolivar Woodcarvers will be in the basement of the Polk County Courthouse with their artwork on display and available for purchase. Six local artisans will be inside businesses on the Bolivar square to demonstrate their work. And five loft apartments on the square will be open from 10am to 2pm for tours. Admission to "Art in the Alley is free;" the loftwalk costs $5; tickets are available at the Tea Garden, Rowten's Home Center, VIllage Boutique, and at the Bolivar Herald-Free Press office.
