Auditor announces run for Senate

State Auditor Claire McCaskill has announced her intentions to run for the U.S. Senate. Mike Smith has the story:

At the Houston Missouri feed mill where her father once worked, State Auditor Claire McCaskill announced Tuesday that she will challenge first term senator Jim Talent next year.

In and interview with KSMU following the announcement, McCaskill said she is running for many of the same reasons why she became a public servant in the first place..."to help people". She said polititians in Washington D.C. have lost touch with the needs of Missouri's citizens, and they have also lost good old fashioned commen sense. McCaskill criticized Talent as a "Washington insider."

Efforts to reach Senator Talent were unsuccessful, but Talent spokesperson Rich Chrismer said "The Senator is focused on his responsibilities as a U.S. Senator from Missouri.

The Senator is working very hard with Republicans and Democrats in the Senate on behalf of Missouri jobs, health care, law enforcement, and our nation's security."

For KSmu News, I'm Mike Smith.
