The Missouri State Board of Governors Executive Committee approved 24 million dollars in construction costs for the JQH Arena. This approval included bids and contracts for flooring, plumbing, electricity and a fire protection system among many other things. KSMU's Joe Morgan was at meeting Thursday and has more.
The Missouri State Board of Governors Executive Committee approved 19 bids for the construction of the JQH Arena. There were 22 items on the agenda Thursday but three bids were removed for later consideration. Vice President for Administrative and Informational Services Greg Burris explains.
Burris says the construction manager did a great job at trying to explore all avenues and encouraging as many bids as possible. He says that played a big role in having bidders from all around the state.
The 24 million dollars in expenditures approved at yesterday's meeting brings the combined construction total to 48 million dollars to this point. That's still 7 million dollars under the estimated total construction budget but the committee still has other expenditures left to approve. Missouri State University President Michael Nietzel says he's excited about where the budget is right now.
All committee members said they are certain the arena will be a huge improvement over the current Hammons Student Center. For KSMU News, I'm Joe Morgan.
