Burst Pipe Leaks Water Into JQH Arena Lobby

At the new JQH Arena, a frozen pipe broke early Tuesday morning, spilling water into part of the lobby. KSMU’s Brett Moser reports.

Director of the Hammons Student Center, Keith Boaz, says the cold temperatures caused a pipe in a rooftop heating and cooling unit to freeze and then burst. A significant amount of water then leaked into the east concourse of JQH Arena. Boaz says he and his crew promptly responded to the scene, cleaning up before any significant damage occurred.

Boaz says that he believes the leak is an isolated issue that comes with new buildings.

He adds that talks are underway to resolve any future issues with remaining rooftop units.

The east concourse, where the spill occurred, houses the Missouri State Athletics Hall of Fame. Boaz says some memorabilia was damaged by water, but that the majority of the display was unharmed.
