Cboy Project Fundraiser held at Drury

Drury University is holding a fundraiser in April to help Cboy Projects raise money to provide clean water to the people of Zambia in Africa.

KSMU's Erika Brame has more.

Cboy Projects is a small organization founded by Candy Gentry a former Peace Corps volunteer.

She spent her service in Zambia.

After she left the Peace Corps , she created the project to continue helping Africa.

She is currently a student at Drury and is calling upon the community to help her project.

The money collected at the fundraiser is to buy a second water purifier for a town in Zambia.

The town has two wells with unsafe drinking water.

Drury University has already donated one purifier.

Gentry says people in this area can affect those in a distant country.

"The money goes to help orphanages that are in absolute poverty. So it's an opportunity for people in our community to make that difference in a country that is over 3,000 miles away."

The fundraiser is on April 26 at 7 p.m. at the Drury gym.

The tickets for adults are $8.00, children are $5.00, and children under the age of 4 are free.

Gentry says The Blue Hawaiian dance group will fly from Hawaii to perform at the fundraiser.

She says that isn't the only thing people will enjoy at the event.

"They'll be the dance, we'll have t-shirts for sale, and Convoy of Hope will be there with a water purifier, they'll demonstrate how it operates."
