The galleries of First Friday Art Walk invite you to the Springfield's downtown arts District to enjoy "Center City Saturday" Oct. 16 a day of free activities for the whole family. Hollywood Theaters, 415 W. College will offer a FREE showing of the animated comedy "Kung Fu Panda" at 10am. And Park Central Branch Library will hold amMarathon of family-friendly films all day on the main stage. Also: the Creamery Arts Center presents the monthly "Free Art Day," from 10am to noon on the 16th, with fall-themed projects including 3-D paper pumpkins, autumn leaf ornaments, painting a ceramic bowl, decorating a goodie bag and storytelling. Sponsored by the Junior League of Springfield, Free Art Day is open to all ages and skill levels; no registration is required and there's no cost. And while you’re at The Creamery, enjoy the ongoing exhibit "Pure Enjoyment," featuring 100 juried artworks from the Meramec Region. You can meet artist Kim Peterson for free hands-on interactive art workshops and storytimes at Global Fayre, along with her ongoing exhibit "Hiding in Plain Sight" featuring her whimsical, energetic and family-friendly images. Kim will offer hands-on crafts at 1 and 3 p.m., and storytimes at 2 and 4 p.m. Springfield Hot Glass Studio will provide live glass-art demonstrations. In fact, you can enjoy your own mini Art Walk on Saturday the 16th, since the First Friday exhibits stay up at the various galleries all month. Center City Saturday takes place the 3rd Saturday of each month, presented by members of First Friday Art Walk and the Downtown Springfield Association.
