CFO Accepting Nominations for ‘Humanitarian of the Year’

In every community you’ll find people who quietly and unselfishly sacrifice their time and resources so that others may live better. The Community Foundation of The Ozarks is now accepting nominations for the 20th annual Humanitarian of the Year Award. KSMU’s Katie Easley has details.

The Humanitarian of the Year Award is designed to honor an individual in the community who has spent a significant amount of time towards helping others.

“We want to recognize the cause of their work, and the individuals who have committed to that, with the hopes of encouraging others to get involved. Maybe not necessarily at that level but just encouraging involvement at all levels,” says Van Bibber.

That’s Ryan Van Bibber, a spokesman for The Community Foundation of the Ozarks. He says the non-profit has already mailed out the nomination applications to non-profit organizations in the community.

“If somebody has an interest, the best route is to talk to someone in the non profit community about that or you can contact the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce,” says Van Bibber.

Van Bibber says a selection committee reviews the applications and eventually selects a winner. The winner receives a crystal award and a 5,000 dollar grant to give to charities of their choice. The deadline for nominations is October 23rd.
