Child Advocacy Center Appeals to Public for Donations

A local non-profit organization that works with abused and neglected children is appealing to the public for donations. KSMU's Jennifer Moore has details.

The Child Advocacy Center is, for the first time, organizing a fundraising effort to help meet rising costs of its program.

Barbara Brown is the executive director of the Child Advocacy Center, and says the maiden fundraiser is going well so far.

Brown says the center works alongside law enforcement officials and investigators on cases of suspected child abuse, interviewing children and facilitating forensic exams.

In 2007, the Child Advocacy Center saw and interviewed 803 children. Nearly nine out of ten of the abuse cases the center sees involve sexual abuse.

For more information on the center's fundraising efforts, you can call 831-2327.

Donations may be sent to the Child Advocacy Center at 1033 E. Walnut, Springfield, MO 65806.
