City Utilities Sends Crews to Help Restore Power in Carthage

Springfield City Utilities is sending crews to the Carthage, Missouri area to assist local electric and water crews in restoring power. Last reports indicate there were still forty to fifty thousand customers without power in southwest Missouri. KSMU's Joe Morgan reports.

City Utilities is assisting other communities through a mutual-aid response put into effect during January's ice storm. City Utilities Communication Supervisor Joel Alexander says that after receiving so much help in Springfield during the last ice storm that it's only right for City Utilities to help out other communities as well.

Alexander says that the crews were not forced to go help the Carthage area.

This week's storm did not hit Springfield as hard as it did other areas of the Ozarks. Alexander says this storm was nothing like January's.

Alexander stresses that City Utilities is excited to help out other communities in need but he also assures CU customers that helping elsewhere will not mean a lack of service here in Springfield.

Alexander is asking all CU customers to fill out an updated power outage form with the proper phone number in case big storms like this happen again. Those forms can be filled out on the CU website. A link to their website will be posted along with this story on ksmu.org. For KSMU News, I'm Joe Morgan.
