When Southwest Missouri was ravaged by Ice storms in 2007 and 2008, it relied heavily on the skilled hands of utility crews which came from all over the region to help restore power to local homes and businesses.
Now, City Utilities crews are returning the favor by heading down to Louisiana to aid those affected by Hurricane Gustav. KSMU's Jennifer Moore spoke with Joel Alexander of City Utilities on the team making its way down to the Gulf.
Alexander says City Utilities has sent a team of 13 people down, including linemen, supervisors and mechanics. Primarily, they will be working in the Alexandria, Louisiana area.
Alexander said the crews will be working on power systems, and could be in Louisiana for two or three weeks.
