A Conversation with FEMA

On May 6th, after a series of tornadoes and severe storms killed 18 people and damaged or destroyed close to 3000 homes and businesses in Southwest Missouri, President Bush declared affected counties "Areas of Disaster". The Presidential declaration allows the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Small business Administration, and the State Emergency Management Agency to join forces in providing assistance to those affected by the storms. On May 19th, KSMU invited representatives from these agencies to talk about the assistance they can and, in some cases, cannot provide. Listen as KSMU's Mike Smith talks with Mike Karl of FEMA; Tony Bauer, with the U.S. Small Business Administration; and Dante Gliniecki with SEMA, the State Emergency Management Agency of Missouri..
