Defense and Strategic Studies Professor at SMSU reacts to President Bush's plan to re-align U.S. military forces abroad.
Mike Smith has the story.
According to SMSU Defense and Strategic Studies Assistant Professor Dale Walton, the plan to move 70,000 troops from South Korea and Germany back to the U.S. makes sense. Walton sees the irony of moving troops who are already in position for quick deployment back home and says there are some legitimate concerns, but says it will prove to be an effective strategy.
Currently, around 200,000 troops are serving in Europe. When 70,000 return, they will bring with them around 100,000 family members and civillian workers.
