Discovery Center Collects School Supplies

An area not-for-profit organization is collecting school supplies for needy children to be distributed thru another non-profit. KSMU's Michele Skalicky has more.

Perhaps one of the most exciting things for many kids about going back to school is getting new school supplies. But some families can't afford them. That's why the Discovery Center of Springfield is partnering with the Salvation Army again this year to collect items for kids going back to school next month.

The Discovery Center's Marketing Director Charlotte McCoy says items will be given to the Salvation Army to be distributed in Southwest Missouri...

Items donated must be new and in their original packaging. McCoy says they've been collecting school supplies for needy kids in the Ozarks for 8 years...

School supplies will be accepted at the Discovery Center thru September 30th. Discovery Center members will receive a free guest pass for items brought in. Non-members will receive a buy-one-get-one-free admission pass. For more information go to discoverycenter.org or call 862-9910.
