If you’re visiting a cemetery to honor a loved one who has passed away, the last thing you want to see is overgrown grass and vandalism on tombstones. KSMU’s Chasity Mayes tells us how a new cemetery in Nixa is keeping the final resting place for people in the Ozarks well taken care of.
Rosedale Valley Memorial Gardens is family-owned and operated, but that’s not what sets it apart from other local cemeteries.
“It’s called an ‘endowed’ cemetery and to the best of our knowledge it’s the only one in the area.”
Jerry Blevins is the general manager of Rosedale Valley Memorial Gardens. He says buying a plot at an endowed cemetery guarantees you the very best.
“15 percent of the purchase price is placed in an escrow fund. That money can’t be spent for anything but the perpetual care of the cemetery. Most of your cemeteries in the area are family cemeteries and they are run by donations and volunteers,” says Blevins.
Blevins also said that as far as he can tell the plots they offer are slightly below average market cost. His cemetery charges around 500 dollars for traditional burial sites which includes urns or caskets. And if you’re looking to memorialize “man’s best friend” in a place besides the backyard, Blevins says they’re happy to help with that as well.
“And then we have a pet cemetery and they start out at 200 dollars,” says Blevins.
The Rosedale Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery is located two miles south of Nixa on Main Street. Blevins says besides the promise of a well kept grave site, the new cemetery can serve a lot of people because of its central location.
