Fewer H1N1 Cases in Greene County

H1N1 is currently having less of an impact in Greene County.

You’ll be relieved to know that cases of the H1N1 flu have dropped in recent days.According to the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, only 46 cases of laboratory confirmed flu were reported to the department in the most current reporting period. That’s down from the 140 cases reported the week before. Health officials say the downward trend continues for the 3rd week in a row.But Health Department director Kevin Gipson says flu pandemics generally see three waves. He says the nation saw its first in April and May, the 2nd wave is happening now, and the third wave is expected in the months ahead.Another shipment of H1N1 vaccine—3000 doses--arrived in Springfield Wednesday. The vaccine continues to go to people at highest risk for infection from H1N1. Gipson says as more vaccine arrives, they’ll offer the vaccine to other members of the community. For information about H1N1 and seasonal flu there’s a number you can call to talk to live operators. It’s 874-1228, and is staffed Monday thru Friday from 8 am to noon and from 1 to 4 pm.
