Flags will fly at half-staff Thursday in Webster County to honor Lt. Matthew Blankenship, the Marshfield firefighter who died over the weekend.
Gov. Jay Nixon has ordered flags to be lowered that day at all state government buildings in the county. Funeral services for the 38-year-old Blankenship are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday inside the city’s high school gymnasium.
A four year veteran of the Marshfield Fire Department, Blankenship died Saturday from injuries sustained while battling a house fire in Niangua on July 13.
A fund to benefit his family continues to grow, with more than 100 contributions and nearly $14,000 in donations received to date.
