Floodgates of Table Rock Dam Opened to Release Flood Waters

As a result of the heavy rain that continues to pour over the Ozarks region this week, The Army Corps of Engineers at Table Rock Lake have opened the floodgates to the Table Rock Dam. KSMU’s Mike Donnelly reports.

According to manager of Table Rock Lake, Greg Oller, the Army Corps of Engineers opened Table Rock Dam at 2 p.m. He spoke to us moments before that, and described what would take place.

“They’re going to do that at about 5000 cubic-feet-per-second [CFS] increments. They’ll start that at two o’clock and they’ll raise them up where we’re doing 5000, and they’ll go back through and do another 5000, and then go back through and do the third 5000. So it will probably be six o’clock before we get the gates opened up completely,” he said.

Oller says that, when the gates opened, 15,000 cubic feet per second would spill through the gates and another 15,000 would be released through the hydro-electric power plant at the dam. The lake is expected to crest at 931 feet of water.

Officials are still keeping an eye on Lake Taneycomo, where the water is also continuing to rise.

For KSMU News, I’m Mike Donnelly.
