FARMERS FACES THE INCUMBENT REPUBLICAN KIT BOND IN THE NOVEMBER ELECTION.

RICHARDS BEGAN HER SPEECH WITH SOME TEXAS FLAVOR.

SHE TOLD THE CROWD GATHERED FOR THE FUNDRAISER THAT THE NATION'S FIRST PRESIDENT, GEORGE WASHINGTON WAS ACTUALLY BORN IN TEXAS AND INSTEAD OF CUTTING DOWN A CHERRY TREE, HE CUT DOWN A MESQUITE TREE.

RICHARDS RELATED THE EXCHANGE BETWEEN GEORGE AND HIS FATHER.

FORMER TEXAS GOVERNOR ANN RICHARDS ALSO SPOKE ABOUT MORE SERIOUS MATTERS.

SHE TALKED ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF DEMOCRATS GETTING REGISTERED VOTERS TO THE POLLS ON ELECTION DAY.

BUT THE MAIN PURPOSE OF HER APPEARANCE WAS TO RAISE MONEY FOR NANCY FARMER.

NANCY FARMER HAS AN UPHILL BATTLE.

HER FUNDRAISING HAS LAGGED BEHIND KIT BOND' CAMPAIGN.

FARMER SAYS SHE EXPECTED BOND TO OUTPACE HER IN FUNDRAISING.

AS ELECTION DAY NEARS, REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRATS CANDIDATES ALIKE IN MAJOR RACES ARE BRINGING IN WELL-KNOWN SUPPORTERS TO HELP RAISE MONEY AS THEY MAKE THEIR FINAL PUSH TO RAISE MONEY TO PAY FOR TELEVISION ADVERTISEMENTS.
