The Gillioz Theatre presents political satire group The Capitol Steps Thursday Jan.27 at 8:00pm, with power, conflict, scandal and mayhem all set to your favorite tunes! And Internationally acclaimed trombonist and composer Delfeayo Marsalis comes to the Gillioz Theatre on Saturday February 5 with his original theatrical jazz production "Sweet Thunder: Duke and Shak" which melds the work of Duke Ellington with William Shakespeare. The production features actor Kenneth Brown Jr. along with Delfeayo Marsalis and a jazz octet, plus full stage set and costuming. Driven by a long-term affinity for both Duke and the Bard, Delfeayo studied literature on the masters’ level at the University of New Orleans where he nurtured his love for Shakespeare. While later earning his masters degree in jazz performance at the University of Louisville, he first made the connection between the Bard and Duke in the form of a thesis paper relating the two, and was inspired to create a fresh new interpretation of Ellington's extended jazz suite "Such Sweet Thunder." The production is currently on a 36-city U.S. tour; it's directed by John Grimsley with script by Charles E. Gerber. Tickets range from $30 to $42.50, with student and group rates available.
