Girl Scouts Learn Lessons, Sell Cookies

For people who buy Girl Scout Cookies, they're a delicious snack. But the cookies are serious business for the young women who sell them. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

Thirteen-year-old Michaela Schneider is in 7th grade. As a Girl Scout, she's helping sell cookies to raise money for her troop. She says selling cookies helps identify people who are willing to support the Girls Scouts and other groups.

Of course, not everyone is interested in buying Girl Scout cookies. Michaela says she's learned to overcome some objections.

Selling Girl Scout cookies is an activity that's a mainstay for scouts, from elementary school through high school.

Thirteen-year-old Kelsey Nunn says as she gets older, it's harder to sell cookies.

Katie Nunn is 17 years old and has sold Girl Scout cookies since she was in 1st grade. She says she has learned a lot.

Using cookie money from previous years and anticipating the money that's going to come in this year, Katie and the other senior troop members built games for three Springfield elementary schools. The schools use the games to hold fundraisers. Jonna Nunn is troop leader.

Cookie booth sales begin this week at area businesses.
