Girl Scouts in Southwest Missouri are doing their part to support our military troops in Iraq. KSMU's Jana Greer reports.
The Girl Scouts of Dogwood Trails Council are inviting the communities of Southwest and Central Missouri to send Girl Scout cookies overseas to the troops.
A suggestion from one of the Girl Scouts led the council to start the program.
Bridgette Oliver is the Communications Director of the Girl Scouts of Dogwood Trails Council.
She says this is their own way to help support the troops in Iraq.
The cookies will ship straight from the bakery to Fort Leonard Wood and the National Guard Armory. From there the cookies will be sent to Iraq.
Oliver says that only after a few days the program has already been successful. If troops are still overseas next year she says she hopes the Girl Scouts will be able to send the cookies again.
The Girl Scouts will be taking orders until March 19. You can send the cookies to Iraq by visiting their website at dogwoodtrails.org.
