Twenty-four hours after Republican State Senator Gary Nodler announced his decision to run for Congress, his colleague in the Missouri Senate, Jack Goodman, says he’s already hit a campaign milestone. KSMU’s Kristian Kriner reports.
In the midst of about 30 supporters, Senator Goodman announced that he has more legislative endorsements in the 7th Congressional District than his Republican opponents.
Former Greene County Sheriff Jack Merritt introduced Goodman.
The state senator began by outlining his conservative views on government spending, abortion and gay marriage.
Goodman said he is happy to have so many people supporting him so early in the campaign process.
“Ours will be a campaign that will combine strong grassroots efforts with aggressive fund raising. First, I’m proud and grateful to announce the endorsements of most of the state legislative leaders of the 7th District of Missouri. I’m also grateful for the endorsements of most of the state representatives from the 7th District. I’m also very grateful at this early stage in the race to have the endorsements of over 50 elected county officials,” Goodman said.
Goodman also announced that he will start a grassroots leadership team in every county in the Congressional District in an attempt to get 2,010 volunteers by 2010.
Goodman ended his speech saying one of his major objectives is to bring the Republican Party back to the goals that he says made it great in the first place.
