Gory fun at the Vandivort with "Evil Dead, The Musical"

Springfield Contemporary Theatre at the Vandivort Center, 305 E. Walnut 4th floor, presents the Springfield-area premiere of "Evil Dead, The Musical." Basedon Sam Raimi's 1980s cult classic films, the show parodies the old story of boy and friends taking a weekend getaway in an abandoned cabin... boy expects to get lucky with girl... boy accidently unleashes ancient evil spirit... friends turn into Candarian Demons... and boy fights 'til dawn to survive. Musical mayhem descends on this sleepover in the woods, and "camp" takes on a whole new meaning with uproarious musical numbers, slapstick antics, and plenty of gory fun in anticipation of Halloween. Nathan Shelton directs, with musical direction by Brooke Stevens. Performances will run Friday through Sunday Oct. 9-11 at 7:30pm; and Thursday through Saturday the 15th through the 17th at 7:30 and 2:30pm Sunday Oct.18; Thursday thru Sunday the 22nd through the 25th all at 7:30pm; and Thursday through Saturday Oct.29-31 at 7:30pm. There's a special up-close and gross "splatter section" in the first two rows, available for an additional charge at all performances. This production is intended for mature audiences and features strong language, crude sexual humor and violent, bloody special effects! Special ticket prices are available Thursday evenings for military and school faculty members. Call 831-8001 or visit www.vctheatre.com for information.
