Governor and County Officials Visit Storm Damaged Areas


Governor Matt Blunt and Greene County officials saw firsthand the damage caused by Monday's severe weather. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

Tuesday evening, members of the Greene County Commission saw firsthand the damage to a Republic elementary school by violent storms Monday night.

Greene County Commissioner Roseanne Bentley walked into the soupy waters that have flooded the fifth grade wing at the school.

The superintendent of Republic Schools says a group of kindergartners was in the school when the storms came through the area but the students were able to make it to safety before the storms damaged the school.

Governor Matt Blunt also visited the school Tuesday evening. He talked to community leaders about the assessment process that begins this morning.

Blunt also on Tuesday the town of Strafford, which sustained damage from the storm.
