Governor Matt Blunt delivered his State of the State Address Wednesday evening. Blunt revealed his budget priorities but as KSMU's Missy Shelton, he also laid out his legislative priorities.
When Governor Matt Blunt outlined his legislative priorities in his address, there were virtually no surprises.
The governor himself had revealed his commitment to many of these proposals prior to Wednesday night.
For example, in his speech, Blunt called on lawmakers to protect private property from misuse of eminent domain.
As part of his legislative agenda, the governor called on lawmakers to pass a series of crime-related proposals.
He's calling for tougher sentences for anyone who commits a sex crime against a child.
He's also asking lawmakers to punish sexual predators who use the internet to contact children.
In addition to his call for tougher penalties for sex-related crimes, Governor Matt Blunt also encouraged lawmakers to fund another crime lab...He has endorsed efforts to bring a crime lab to Springfield.
There's already bi-partisan support for a number of items that are part of the governor's legislative agenda...But his budget priorities likely will split lawmakers down party lines as they did last session.
