Greene County Commisioner Race, District 1

All three candidates running for a seat on the Greene County Commission are new to politics. K-S-M-U's Katie Hummel begins her report with Republican Harold Bengsch.

REPUBLICAN HAROLD BENGSCH IS RUNNING FOR GREENE COUNTY COMMISSIONER, DISTRICT 1, WHICH REPRESENTS THE WESTERN HALF OF GREENE COUNTY.

BENGSCH SAYS HIS 20-YEAR BACKGROUND AS FORMER DIRECTOR OF THE SPRINGFIELD-GREENE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT HAS GIVEN HIM EXPERIENCE WITH THE ISSUES FACING THE COMMUNITY TODAY.

AND THAT'S SUSIE BROWN - AN OFFICE MANAGER FOR A MANUFACTURING FIRM HERE IN SPRINGFIELD AND BENGSCH'S DEMOCRATIC OPPONENT.

BROWN EXPLAINS HOW SHE ENDED UP IN THE RACE FOR GREENE COUNTY ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER.

AND IF ELECTED, BROWN SAYS SHE'LL CHOOSE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE TRAFFIC IN GREENE COUNTY.

AND WHILE BOTH CANDIDATES BRING THEIR OWN EXPERIENCES TO THIS RACE, NEITHER ONE OF THEM HAS A STRONG POLITICAL BACKGROUND.

BENGSCH SAYS HE JUST THOUGHT IT WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO AFTER HE RETIRED.

BUT ANOTHER NEWCOMER TO POLITICS IS ALSO COMPETING FOR THE SEAT.

LIBERTARIAN CANDIDATE MARK JONES SAYS HE KNOWS WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE EFFICIENT : A TRAIT HE BELIEVES WILL HELP THE COMMISSION.

SO AS WE LEARN A LITTLE ABOUT THE CANDIDATES RUNNING FOR GREENE COUNTY ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER, DISTRICT 1, THEY ARE ALSO LEARNING WHAT IT TAKES TO RUN A CAMPAIGN IN POLITICS.
