Greene County Commissioners Race

Two well-known candidates are running for one of the open seat on the Greene County Commission. KSMU's Katie Hummel reports.

BILL COMPERE IS RUNNING FOR GREENE COUNTY ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER, DISTRICT 2, WHICH REPRESENTS THE EASTERN SIDE OF GREENE COUNTY.

HE SAYS HE'S NEVER RUN IN A POLITICAL RACE BEFORE.

IN FACT, HE SAYS HE'S NOT RUNNING IN ONE NOW.

THAT'S ROSEANN BENTLEY, A FORMER TWO-TERM STATE SENATOR FROM SPRINGFIELD.

SHE'S THE REPUBLICAN IN THIS RACE.

THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS IN GREENE COUNTY REGULATES PLANNING AND ZONING, WATER CONTROL, AMONG OTHER THINGS.

BENTLEY SAYS SHE WOULD BRINGS A WEALTH OF EXPERIENCE TO THE COMMISSION.

NOT ONLY IS SHE A FORMER STATE SENATOR AND A FORMER TEACHER, SHE'S ALSO WORKED AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL AS AN ADVOCATE FOR EDUCATION AND CHILDREN.

BENTLEY'S OPPONENT, DEMOCRAT BILL COPMERE SAYS HE'S ALSO QUALIFIED FOR THE JOB.

COMPERE POINTS TO HIS BACKGROUND IN ACCOUNTING AND PUBLIC POLICY.

COMPERE IS A DEMOCRAT RUNNING IN A COUNTY THAT TRENDS REPUBLICAN.

HE SAYS HE HOPES VOTERS LOOK BEYOND HIS PARTY AFFILIATION.

RESIDENTS OF GREENE COUNTY MIGHT HAVE A TOUGH TIME THIS ELECTION YEAR, WHEN THEY HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THESE TWO CANDIDATES WHO HAVE ONLY GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT ONE ANOTHER.
