The new Division 25 courtroom was dedicated July 27, 2009 at the Greene County Judicial Courts Facility. KSMU's Katie Easley reports.
The new courtroom allows Greene County’s 31st judicial circuit to have seven additional rotating justices from Missouri’s Judicial Courts for civil suits. Greene County Commissioner Dave Coonrod says they started working on this project after a 2007 study by the National Center for State Courts found the county was short on judges.
Coonrod also says the addition of the 25th Division will allow other Greene county judges to work through their backload of criminal cases. “Bringing criminal cases to trial moves inmates out of our Greene county jail which has a capacity problem and eases the Burdon of that facility but more importantly it brings justice to those who have been victims of crime,” says Coonrod.According to Coonrod the county saved an estimated $200,000 dollars by hiring internal staff to complete the project.
