Greene County Democratic Chairman Resigns

The man who has served as the chairman of the Greene County Democratic Party for the last 11 years is stepping down. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

STEVE STEPP HAS BEEN THE CHAIRMAN OF THE GREENE COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY FOR THE LAST 11 YEARS.

STEPP SAYS THERE ARE SEVERAL REASONS HE DECIDED TO RESIGN.

STEPP WAS RE-ELECTED TO HIS POST AS CHAIRMAN IN AUGUST.

HE SAYS THAT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN A GOOD TIME TO RESIGN.

IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS, SPRINGFIELD DEMOCRATS LOST TWO SEATS IN THE MISSOURI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES WHEN REPRESENTATIVE MIKE SCHILLING DECIDED NOT TO SEEK RE-ELECTION AND REPRESENTATIVE CRAIG HOSMER LEFT OFFICE BECAUSE OF TERM LIMITS.

HOSMER TRIED AND FAILED TO WIN A SENATE SEAT.

THOUGH DEMOCRATS PICKED UP ONE HOUSE SEAT IN SPRINGFIELD DURING THIS YEAR'S ELECTION, STEPP SAYS IT SHOWS LOCAL DEMOCRATS HAVE A LOT OF WORK AHEAD OF THEM.

STEPP SAYS HE AND HIS WIFE PEGGY WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES AND THE PARTY.
