The next Springfield City Manager is Greg Burris. City Council made the announcement this afternoon and KSMU's Missy Shelton was there.
Mayor Tom Carlson welcomed Greg Burris to the podium at a press conference packed with city and county officials. Burris comes to the city from his position at Missouri State University as Vice President of Administrative and Information Services. Burris says his experience at the university has prepared him to be city manager.
Council's vote for Burris was not unanimous. Council member Cindy Rushefsky voted no. She explained her vote at the press conference.
Despite that, Rushefsky says she has high expectations for Burris and now that he's been hired, fully supports him in his new position.
Burris will begin his work as City Manager September 15th.
