For many people living in the Ozarks, keeping a simple conversation can be a daily struggle—especially if they have trouble speaking English. A new group is here to help. KSMU’s Brandon Goodwin reports.
The Conversation Circle meets every Tuesday to do what most of us take for granted: talk, in English. Marcia Kellotat organizes the weekly gathering.
“It is a place where people who are learning to speak English, or who maybe speak English but don’t speak it as well as they like, can come and sit down and have a conversation in English,” she said.
She says some people can feel intimidated or overwhelmed in day to day conversations, so they just don’t try.
“And maybe by coming to a very informal setting, they will start feeling more comfortable and more able to converse when they go out,” she said.
All are welcome to join the Conversation Circle from six-thirty until seven-thirty at the Midtown Library and the Library Station on Tuesday evenings through the end of April.
