Gubernatorial Debate Preview

The two leading candidates for governor will meet tonight for the first time for a televised debate. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports on how the candidates spent the day preparing for tonight's debate.

A SPOKESMAN FOR THE REPUBLICAN MATT BLUNT SAYS THE SECRETARY OF STATE IS MAKING NO PUBLIC APPEARANCES, CHOOSING INSTEAD TO SPEND THE DAY REVIEWING HIS PROPOSALS AND THOSE OF HIS OPPONENT, DEMOCRAT CLAIRE MC-CASKILL.

DURING LUNCHTIME, MC-CASKILL ATTENDED A RECEPTION AT THE AMERICAN ROYAL COMPLEX, HELD A PRESS CONFERENCE TO ACCEPT THE ENDORSEMENT OF KANSAS CITY MAYOR KAY BARNES AND THEN SPENT THE AFTERNOON RESTING AND PREPARING FOR THE DEBATE.

MC-CASKILL'S VOICE HAS BECOME RASPY FROM THE RIGOROUS SCHEDULE.

DESPITE THAT, SHE SAYS SHE'S LOOKING FORWARD TO THE DEBATE.

THE SECOND AND LAST DEBATE IS THIS FRIDAY EVENING AT 7 IN SPRINGFIELD.
