The Secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services, Mike Leavitt was in Springfield this afternoon to talk to seniors about the Medicare prescription drug benefit.
He visited an enrollment center that was set up at the Springfield Greene County library Center.
Alyce Crosby of Willard was one of the seniors who came to the event to get more information on the prescription drug plan.
Crosby says she doesn't like it because so far, it hasn't helped her mother with her prescription drugs.
In response to these kind of critiques, Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt told reporters that he believes the Medicare prescription drug program overall has resulted in lower drug prices.
Some seniors say the program is too confusing...They say there are too many choices when it comes to choosing a plan that works best for their individual needs. Eugene and Rebecca Bell of Springfield came to the enrollment center today to try to get some answers.
For those who are confused, Mike Leavitt says it's a good idea to come to events like the one today in Springfield where there are people with expertise who can help.
The next enrollment event for the Medicare Prescription Drug Program is Monday from 1:30 to 5:30 at the Springfield Greene County Library Center on South Campbell.
