Summer’s arriving with a bang. The longest day of the year today is expected to see temperatures around 94 with a heat index of 99. "We recommend that, during the hottest part of the day--mid to late afternoon--spend some time in an air conditioned place if you can. Of course, stay hydrated, drink plenty of fluids and, again, get out of the sun and not do too much strenuous activity."
Some relief is possible Wednesday night into Thursday. There’s a 30% chance for showers and storms then, and Terry says clouds should help bring temperatures down into the upper 80s. "It's a little unusual. We usually are getting this heat around mid to late July. Climatelogically, that's our most favorable time, so we are a little ahead of schedule."
Normal temperatures for this time of year are in the mid to upper 80s. Even if there’s a break in the heat Wednesday night into Thursday, it won’t last. Temperatures are expected to climb back up into the mid 90s for the weekend.
