Several companies and organizations in the Ozarks are getting ready to hire drivers, a positive indication that business and productivity are up. KSMU’s Jennifer Davidson has details about an upcoming hiring event focused on the transportation sector.
The Missouri Career Center is hosting the hiring event on June 27, and some big names will be there: Coca-Cola, Springfield Public Schools, Fitz Limousine, and MoDOT are a few.
The focus is on drivers with a special license, like the various classes of a commercial driver’s license.
Cynthia Collins at the Career Center says there will be other job opportunities, too.
“As with any transportation delivery company, or even over-the-road truck driving company, there are other positions associated with that one position [of driving]. But right now, that’s the area we’re targeting. So it’s open to the public,” Collins said.
For example, truck driving companies need schedulers and mechanics, too—not just drivers. But the emphasis at this hiring event will be largely on people with a Commercial Driver's License, or CDL.
Collins was unable to confirm how many positions are up for grabs, but she described it as a “large" number of jobs.
The hiring event is Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Missouri Career Center’s new location: that’s 2900 East Sunshine in Springfield. The event runs from 8:30 to 1:30 that day.
