Missouri lawmakers have three weeks left in their regular session. KSMU's Missy Shelton sat down with the House leadership and asked them to reflect on what lawmakers have accomplished and what's left to do.
On this week's edition of the public television program Jeff City Journal, House Speaker Rod Jetton characterizes the legislative session this way:
Jetton's democratic counterpart is Democratic Floor Leader Representative Paul LeVota.
LeVota and Jetton agree that the announcement earlier this session that Governor Matt Blunt will not seek re-election had an impact on the legislature.
LeVota says it's been an opportunity to work in a more bi-partisan way.
Since Governor Matt Blunt is not running again, Congressman Kenny Hulshof, State Treasurer Sarah Steelman and several others are seeking the Republican nomination. Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon is the likely democratic nominee.
House Speaker Rod Jetton says the governor's announcement has taken away some political pressure.
You can hear more from both House Speaker Rod Jetton and Democratic Floor Leader Representative Paul LeVota this evening on Jeff City Journal, which airs at 7:30 on Ozarks Public Television.
