Inauguration Preview

On Monday, Governor-elect Matt Blunt will be sworn in to office. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

ON MONDAY, GOVERNOR-ELECT MATT BLUNT WILL BE SWORN IN TO OFFICE.

IN ADDITION TO THE CEREMONY, THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER EVENTS, ALL OF WHICH ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

BLUNT'S SPOKESMAN PAUL SLOCA DESCRIBES THE INAUGURATION DAY ACTIVITIES.

WITH ALL THE FUSS THAT ENSUED OVER THE ONE MILLION DOLLAR INAUGURAL DEMOCRATIC GOVERNOR BOB HOLDEN HAD FOUR YEARS AGO, SLOCA SAYS BLUNT IS KEEPING THINGS MORE LOW-KEY.

HE SAYS THE COST OF BLUNT'S INAUGURAL WILL BE SIGNIFICANT LESS THAN ONE MILLION DOLLARS.

SLOCA SAYS BLUNT WILL LET THE PUBLIC KNOW THE NAMES OF INDIVIDUALS, ORGANIZATIONS AND BUSINESSES THAT ARE PAYING FOR THE INAUGURAL.

ON INAUGURATION DAY, MATT BLUNT WILL GIVE HIS FIRST SPEECH AS GOVERNOR.

SLOCA HAS A PREVIEW OF BLUNT'S INAUGURAL ADDRESS.

FOUR YEARS AGO, MATT BLUNT WAS THE ONLY REPUBLICAN ELECTED TO STATEWIDE OFFICE WHEN HE WAS SWORN IN AS SECRETARY OF STATE.

BUT THIS PAST NOVEMBER, ONLY TWO DEMOCRATS WERE ELECTED TO STATEWIDE OFFICE: ROBIN CARNAHAN WAS ELECTED SECRETARY OF STATE AND JAY NIXON WAS RE-ELECTED ATTORNEY GENERAL.
