John McCain Addresses Energy Issues in Springfield Forum

Senator John McCain spoke to a packed theater of nearly 500 people Wednesday afternoon on the campus of Missouri State University in Springfield. Some people stood in line for five hours just to attend the town-hall meeting. KSMU's Jennifer Moore was there and reports.

The presumptive GOP presidential nominee got three standing ovations before even taking the podium in the heavily Republican corner of the state.

McCain spoke on his energy policy, saying he would like to move America's energy dependence towards wind, solar, and particularly nuclear sources.

The Senator also committed to developing what he called "clean coal" plants, which would reduce the amount of harmful carbon emissions entering the atmosphere.

McCain's speech was interrupted by a heckler shouting that the Senator's energy policies rewarded big oil companies.

McCain recently supported lifting a ban on drilling for oil off US shores.

The town-hall meeting included CEOs from energy companies and one local professor.
