The ceremonial ribbon cutting and transfer of keys for the new JQH Arena took place at the grand entrance to the arena late Friday afternoon. KSMU’s Alvin Chen reports.
It was windy and cloudy, but that didn’t stop people from gathering together and celebrating the completion of the arena. Friday’s ceremony took place almost two years after the ground-breaking in December of 2006.
Several dignitaries attended and spoke at the ceremony, including City Manager Greg Burris, Missouri State Director of Athletics Bill Rowe, Vice President of University Advancement Brent Dunn, and university President Dr. Michael Nietzel.
Burris said that the completion of this huge project was due to a team effort and experimental work.
After the ceremony, MSU President Dr. Michael Nietzel talked about what he thought of the event and what the arena would bring to the community.
Final touches of the construction phase will be completed over the next few months. The new JQH Arena will host several upcoming events including an open house for Missouri State students on Nov.1, an Eagles concert on Nov.13, and a dedication ceremony on Nov. 22 and 23.
