Lady Bears Receive NCAA Tournament Seed

Missouri State Lady Bears fans gathered with the team, cheerleaders, and pep band at a watch party Monday night to find their seed in the 64-team 2006 Women's NCAA Basketball Tournament. KSMU's Christy Hendricks reports.

The Missouri State Lady Bears and their fans erupted with cheers as they learned their seed in the 2006 Women's NCAA Basketball Tournament at a watch party Monday night.

The Lady Bears, seeded 13 in the tournament region, will take on number four seed Purdue this Sunday.

The team received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament after winning the Missouri Valley Conference championship last Sunday.

Coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson says she is stunned after last weekend's sweep and thinks the chance to play in the big dance is a good opportunity for the team.

Abrahamson-Henderson says she will give the girls a few days off to relax and review tapes of Purdue to get a better idea of how they play.

She says Purdue is a good match up for Missouri State.

Hannah Kirk, a senior on the Lady Bears, says she is relieved to hear the team's placement in the tournament.

This will be Kirk's 3rd NCAA Tournament appearance with the Lady Bears in the past four years.

Kari Koch, a senior voted the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player, says she hopes the team pulls together Sunday as they did to win the MVC championship.

The Missouri State Lady Bears' record is 17-14 before they take on the Purdue Boilermakers in West Lafayette, Indiana on Purdue's home court at 11:00 this Sunday March 19th.
