Large Number of Missouri School Buses Receive Passing Grades

School Bus

The Missouri State Highway Patrol released its annual school bus inspection report in an attempt to ensure students arrive safely to school. KSMU’s Justin Lux has the details.

The highway patrol’s spring inspection found that 88% of the state’s school buses were found to be free of any defective items. This is a slight improvement from last year’s 84% approval rate.

About 1,200 buses were rejected meaning they were found to have at least one minor defect. These buses are still considered safe to transport students, but must be repaired, reinspected and approved within ten days.

Along with the defective buses there were an additional 243 buses that were placed out of order and considered unsafe to transport students. These buses must be repaired and passed through inspection before being cleared for service.

For KSMU News, I’m Justin Lux.
