Hundreds of McCain supporters gathered inside Plaster Student Union to support the presidential candidate, however, it was a different story outside the theater. Brett Moser reports.
"Patriots For Peace." "We the People Do Not Want War." "Workers for Obama." These were just some of the poster slogans created by local groups and individuals protesting Senator John McCain's visit to Missouri State University.
Spokesperson for Planned Parenthood Kellie Rohrbaugh was one of many gathered outside of the Plaster Student Union. She believes that given McCain's political past, voters should be aware of the senator's stance on women's health.
Clark Brown of the Service Employees International Union protested because of Senator McCain's view of American health care.
In addition to local organizations, Missouri State University students used McCain's visit as a platform to speak out. JT Eberhard, a music major originally from Mountain Home, Arkansas, discussed his view of the senator's position on the war in Iraq.
Next to the protesters were several McCain supporters who distributed pamphlets and campaign material. Local republican campaign worker Scott Turk had no problems with the demonstration saying "They're supporting what they believe in and everyone should have that opportunity."
