This Friday a new community coalition is hosting an event in Branson to kick off their new campaign aimed at community wellness. KSMU’s Shane Franklin spoke with one of the organizers for the event, and has these details.

The Ozarks Wellness Network, also known as OWN it, is a community coalition made up of 23 organizations in Stone and Taney Counties with an interest in positively shaping the wellness of their community.

OWN it focuses on four main areas of wellness based on community needs: Unhealthy body weight, substance abuse, child and family safety, and mental health.

Lisa Marshall, wellness supervisor at the Cox Medical Center Branson, says the forming of this coalition just makes sense.

“What we are finding is that a lot of agencies in the area were addressing these issues on their own, and we were finding that no one agency had the adequate resources to completely address these issues at the level that they need to be addressed,” said Marshall.

The Ozarks Wellness Network, she says, is all about pooling the community’s financial and intellectual resources to attack specific health issues in a highly collaborate and strategic way.

OWN it is kicking off their campaign with an event at the Branson Landing this Friday from 4-6pm. The entire community is invited to come out and learn more about their programs.

Marshall says the event will offer informational interaction with several of the organization’s community partners.
