Two local slam poetry events are coming up. TONIGHT (Thurs. Feb.11) at 7:00pm at Nathan P. Murphy's, 218 S. Campbell downtown, is "Take Back the Mic," an annual celebration of women's voices in poetry. Local poet Lauryl will M.C. the event. Special musical guests include Giulia Rusciano, Abbie Benton, When The Drummers Were Women, and the Ozark Mountain Gypsies. This event is a qualifier for the third annual World Poetry Slam to be held in March in Columbus, Ohio. The "Take Back the Mic" winner will represent MoPoetry Slam at the World Slam. Audience participation is encouraged. There's a $5 cover charge tonight. Then next Thursday Feb.18 poets Andi Kauth and Eric Breland will be featured in the February Poetry Slam at 7:00pm at the Moxie Cinema, 431 S. Jefferson. The slam is open to ANY poet; be prepared to read & perform three 3-minute poems. Poet sign up starts at 6:30pm. Only the first 10 poets to sign up may compete.
