Many long-time fans welcomed the news on Monday that Nyla Milleson will be the Lady Bears Head Coach. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.
Milleson took the position following the resignation of Coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson. Milleson comes to Missouri State from Drury University where she coached for seven seasons and built a strong Division Two program from the ground up.
One of the fans who's glad to see Milleson making the move to Missouri State is Mary Jo Wynn. She worked in athletics at the university from the mid-1970's to the late 1990's. First, she was director of the women's athletic program and then associate athletic director.
Wynn says Nyla Milleson is a good choice to lead the women's basketball program.
Wynn says she's not concerned about Milleson's lack of experience as a Division One Head Coach.
Wynn says she's eager to see how Milleson does with national recruiting.
Betty Harrell is another long-time Lady Bears fan. She says she was pleased that the search committee chose Milleson.
Harrell says if Milleson improves the team's performance, attendance at the games will improve too.
Harrell says she likes the fact that the selection committee chose a coach with ties to the local community.
