Medicare Part D Enrollment Events

House Majority Whip Roy Blunt was in Springfield today to talk about additional opportunities for seniors to sign up for Medicare Part D. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

House Majority Whip Roy Blunt was in Springfield today (Monday) to talk about additional opportunities for seniors to sign up for Medicare Part D.

The deadline to sign up for the prescription drug benefit is May 15th.

Blunt spoke to about 500 people at the Missouri Summit on Aging and Health.

Before his formal remarks, Blunt told reporters about a series of Medicare enrollment events in Southwest Missouri that will give seniors a chance to get help with signing up for Medicare Part D.

Blunt says signing up for Medicare Part D doesn't need to be a complicated process.

He says all you need to know is what medicine you take.

Blunt says if you and your spouse take different medications, you may benefit from signing up for different prescription drug plans.

Blunt acknowledged that pharmacists are still having problems with Medicare Part D.

He says he hopes the government can begin to address their concerns.

Beth McCullough is a pharmacist. She owns Medical Park Pharmacy in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

She says pharmacists and patients are having a difficult time because of reimbursements.

Missouri pharmacists are also having problems with reimbursements.

Ron Fitzwater is the Chief Executive Officer of the Missouri Pharmacy Association.

House Majority Whip Roy Blunt says he wants to continue to work with pharmacists who are having problems.

Again, for consumers who need help with Medicare Part D, there will be 11 enrollment events around Southwest Missouri between April 21st and May 10th.

Information on these events is available by calling 1-888-889-3535.

The deadline to enroll in Medicare Part D is May 15th.
