Missouri State University Prepares for Spring Commencement

Missouri State University holds its Spring Commencement ceremony this Friday at JQH Arena. KSMU’s Adam Murphy reports.

Missouri State University holds its Spring Commencement ceremony this Friday at JQH Arena. This will be the first spring ceremony held in the new Arena. The commencement events are divided into three separate ceremonies, at 10:00 am, 1:30 pm and 5:00 pm each celebrating the graduates of different Colleges within Missouri State.

Two honorary Doctorates in Public Affairs will be granted during the ceremony. The honorees are Jan Horton of Springfield, who has made contributions in the areas of the arts, environment, and community development, and Patti Penny, founder of Penmac Personnel Services, and creator of several programs that assist the economically disenfranchised in Springfield and the surrounding communities.

This commencement also marks the start of a new tradition initiated by the 2009 Senior Class Gift Commission. The commission donated three flagpoles to stand outside JQH Arena, and a senior class flag which will fly on commencement days.

Each of the three ceremonies lasts approximately 90 minutes. Doors open one hour prior to the beginning of the ceremony. There are no tickets required, and the event is open to the public. Parking is available in the lots surrounding JQH arena, and in Bear Parks North and South. More information regarding commencement can be found at www.missouristate.edu/commencement
